McLaren Construction breaks £1bn turnover barrier

Tier one contractor McLaren Construction has passed the £1bn turnover mark for the first time in its 25-year history, underlining a year of strong financial and operational performance.

The group’s annual report and accounts for the year to 31 July 2025 show turnover of £1.12bn, up from £924m the previous year, while pre-tax profit almost doubled to £21m from £11.9m. Momentum has continued into the current financial year, with turnover forecast to rise further to £1.25bn in 2026.

Diversification into the public sector made a significant contribution, generating £250m of turnover during the year. McLaren now holds places on 24 frameworks, including the University of Greenwich Major Works Framework, the Worcestershire and West Midlands Development Framework and the London Construction Programme Housing Framework. This expansion has strengthened the contractor’s position in building safety, refurbishment, health and education markets.

Growth has also been driven by sustained demand in the data centre and warehouse sectors.

During the 2025 financial year, McLaren was involved in more than 81 active projects across the UK and the UAE, with 21 schemes in negotiation, 31 live on site and 29 completed. Contracts secured during the year included Brettenham House for Helical; the Boxing Academy in Hackney for the Department for Education; Guildford Depot for Guildford Borough Council; TN2 Gateway for Scannell Properties and Royal London Asset Management Property; MLM Crayford for Stoford and Axel Logistics; 10 King William Street for Helical and Places for London; and Grafton Street Phase 1 for O&H Properties.

The contractor has since expanded its regional footprint into Wales, securing the Cardiff Arena project for Live Nation and the Kop Stand redevelopment for Wrexham AFC.

Repeat business continued from major clients including British Land, Landsec, The Crown Estate, Big Yellow, Manchester Airports Group, the Department for Education and sister company McLaren Property. New customers during the year included Panattoni, Live Nation and the London School of Economics.

Chief executive Paul Heather said the company’s geographic reach and sector diversity had been key to its performance in a challenging market. “McLaren has reached the point where it can offer expertise in any building sector, anywhere in England and Wales, and in the UAE,” he said. “Our project wins range from £10m to £350m in value, and we have remained lean and flexible enough to deliver schemes of any size and complexity while continuing to offer value to our customers.”
