Wates Group has confirmed the permanent appointment of George Mosey as managing director for construction in London, formalising a role he has been performing on an interim basis since the end of February.

Mosey originally joined Wates in March 2025 as UK operations director and brings more than 17 years of experience across senior leadership positions within the construction sector. His move into the permanent managing director position follows a short interim period in which he led the London construction business through a transitional phase.

In his new role, Mosey will oversee strategy and day-to-day operations across Wates Construction London, with a stated focus on performance excellence and improving outcomes for clients. His appointment builds on a continuous improvement programme introduced earlier in 2025, which has been central to efforts to strengthen delivery performance and operational consistency across the business.

Under his leadership, the London division is expected to continue prioritising efficiency, customer outcomes and operational discipline as it navigates a demanding market environment characterised by cost pressure, skills constraints and heightened client expectations.

Steff Battle, executive managing director at Wates Construction, said, “Since stepping into the role on an interim basis, George has brought strong leadership and a clear sense of direction for the Construction London team.

“His ability to build momentum has been evident, and I am delighted to confirm his appointment on a permanent basis and to see his energy and focus continue to drive the business forward.”

The company has confirmed that it will now begin the recruitment process to appoint a new UK operations director to replace Mosey in his previous role, ensuring continuity across its national operations as leadership responsibilities are reshaped.

The appointment reflects a wider focus within major UK contractors on strengthening regional leadership structures and reinforcing delivery performance in key markets, particularly London, where competition, complexity and client expectations remain high.
