Premier Modular delivers rapid ‘learning village’ to bring pupils back to St Peter’s Junior School in Nottinghamshire

Premier Modular delivers rapid ‘learning village’ to bring pupils back to St Peter’s Junior School in Nottinghamshire

Leading offsite manufacturer, Premier Modular has delivered four new buildings to St Peter’s C of E Junior School in Ruddington to accommodate all 350 pupils who were moved when the existing school building was permanently closed due to structural issues. This project represents one of the fastest temporary building deployments ever delivered in the UK.

The four new buildings, delivered for Arc Partnership on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, are comprised of 46 ‘modules’, forming the new, temporary learning village. The modular school buildings include dining and catering facilities, double classroom blocks, one- and two-story classroom facilities, offices, staffrooms and a new IT Suite and server room.

As part of close collaborative working with the school, Council officers and Arc Partnership, school children affected by the school closure have had no interruption in their learning.  The learning village has enabled pupils who were briefly relocated to nearby schools to return to full time learning on the site.  The modular buildings delivered are high quality, energy efficient and finished to a premium specification. Crucially, the whole project was delivered in twelve weeks from mobilization, and within sixteen weeks of the original school closure.

Premier Modular provided a turnkey package for the modular buildings and associated groundwork, working with Arc Partnership as main contractor, project and cost manager.  The package included  leading the design, construction, delivery and installation of the modular buildings; including creating ramps, steps, pathways and other additional facilities and design features to make the site effective and pleasant.

Steve Bygott, Sales Development Manager, Premier Modular, said: “Through design, Manufacturing and Operations, our team have delivered this critical facility in approximately half the standard delivery timeframe. We were able to work with Arc Partnership, St Peter’s, Nottinghamshire County Council, and our subcontractors to carry out surveys and design the substructure and foundations, whilst considering staff and student requirements for the buildings and site. Our team quickly identified what was needed and delivered it in just a few weeks. We are proud of that.”

Daniel Maher, Managing Director at Arc Partnership said: “Delivering the temporary village in just three months is an incredible achievement by all concerned. The quick and efficient turnaround means that pupils are now back learning among their peers and teachers with minimal disruption. Arc Partnership is proud to have supported this significant project on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, and we now look forward to delivering a high-quality new school that will serve the pupils and community for the future.”

Nottinghamshire County Council Leader, Mick Barton said: “We are really proud of how quickly this project has been turned around as we know how important it was to get the school site back up and running. It was a real team effort with contractors and council colleagues working around the clock to get this ready in record-breaking time. We hope this temporary home will provide a great environment to learn, with catering on site, a school hall and SEND provisions.’’

The temporary learning village has been created next to the old school building so students can once again access the site. The long-term plan will be to demolish the current building and rebuild the school.  Central government funding from the School Rebuilding Programme has been announced for rebuilding the school.

Premier Modular is dedicated to driving sustainable building approaches and this project is being delivered with sustainability and circularity front of mind. Offsite manufacturing is being utilised to reduce waste, emissions and energy use. All materials and structures are repurposed and recyclable at end-of-life.
