GVS Filter Technology UK has officially opened its new £14m manufacturing facility and office complex in Lancaster, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony with company representatives, main contractor Conlon Construction, principal architect Cassidy + Ashton and the wider project supply chain.
The project transformed a 24,000sqm former Sofidel site on Caton Road, Lancaster into a sustainable and captivating riverside location, delivering a transformative UK headquarters that pays homage to the Italian manufacturer’s heritage.
Staff have now relocated from GVS’ previous UK base in Morecambe, with all c.200 employees moving into the new two-storey, low-carbon waterside development, supporting the company’s drive towards net zero.
With roots stretching back to 1979, GVS manufactures highly technical filtration systems for healthcare, life science, safety and automotive sectors. The new Lancaster facility brings together advanced manufacturing and office accommodation under one roof, creating a modern base for its UK operations.
Leveraging extensive experience in delivering sustainable projects, Conlon incorporated renewable energy and heat transfer management systems into the build in accordance with Cassidy + Ashton’s design.

The new headquarters also features a sophisticated drainage system that channels surface water through grassed swales within the car park, leading to a meticulously landscaped wildlife pond, before ultimately releasing the water into the River Lune.
The Preston-based contractor worked alongside architecture, planning and building surveying practice Cassidy + Ashton, who designed the scheme and secured planning permission for the ambitious project.
The completed development has transformed an existing warehouse into GVS’s new production facilities, comprising injection moulding and high-tech filter manufacturing, carried out under cleanroom standards. Conlon also delivered space for warehousing and storage, plus a striking reception, office and administration area.
Conlon and Cassidy + Ashton have a longstanding track record of delivering high-spec projects together in the North West, including the transformation of the Lancaster University Management School.
Miguel Aranda, managing director of GVS Filter Technology UK, said: “Conlon and Cassidy + Ashton’s professionalism, collaboration, and attention to detail have delivered a state-of-the-art environment that reflects who we are and enhances our team’s daily experience. The new space has strengthened connection, creativity, and well-being across the business. We’re immensely grateful for the way the team brought our vision to life and supported the health, happiness, and productivity of our people.”
Darren Lee, commercial director of Conlon Construction, said: “Delivering GVS’s new, purpose-built UK headquarters in Lancaster – and facilitating its relocation from Morecambe – has been an exciting and significant project. It strengthens Lancashire’s economy, shows global companies that the region is a hub for investment and innovation, and proves what can be achieved when local expertise comes together. We’re proud to deliver a facility that sets a benchmark for the county and reinforces Lancashire’s standing in the global business community.”
Alistair Baines, chairman, Cassidy + Ashton said: “Cassidy + Ashton has a track record of designing some of the most ambitious and innovative industrial developments across the North West in recent years and supporting the progression of these through to construction with our expert planning team. GVS Filters Technology UK’s new facility is a real statement of intent from an innovative, growing company and a fantastic investment in the Lancashire economy. I’m looking forward to seeing the company’s continued UK growth from its new purpose-built base.”
