£18m scheme to deliver 80 new apartments near town centre

More than £18m is set to be invested in a new residential scheme delivering 80 apartments close to a town centre, in a project described locally as “desperately needed”. The development will add to the area’s housing stock at a time of sustained demand, with planners highlighting the importance of bringing new homes forward on well-located brownfield land.

The apartment block will be built within walking distance of the main retail and commercial core, supporting local services and improving footfall for nearby businesses. Its town-centre fringe location is expected to appeal to a mix of residents, including young professionals and downsizers seeking good access to transport and amenities.

Construction of the scheme represents a significant pipeline opportunity for contractors and subcontractors in the region, with a package of works likely to include groundworks, structural frame, envelope, fit-out and associated public realm. The project team will also be expected to address current building regulations and energy-efficiency standards, reflecting the industry’s wider shift towards more sustainable residential design.

Local stakeholders have framed the investment as part of a broader effort to regenerate underused sites around the town centre and increase housing density in accessible locations. Once complete, the 80-unit development is anticipated to contribute to both the long-term renewal of the area and the ongoing workload of the regional construction supply chain.
