Blackburn with Darwen Council has selected 10 contractors for a new £50m highways framework covering road construction, surfacing, cold milling and asphalt repairs across the borough.
Local Lancashire civils firms George Cox & Sons, Multipave and NMS Civil Engineering have secured places on the £20m main civils lot after beating competition from 13 other bidders. Eric Wright Civil Engineering, PP O’Connor, Bethell Construction, Casey and JJ O’Grady were among the unsuccessful firms for the civils package.
The four-lot framework is due to begin on 1 October and will initially run for two years. The council has included two further 12-month extension options, potentially taking the framework through to September 2030.
The £20m surfacing lot has been awarded to DSD Construction, Holcim UK and Multipave (NW), while the £20m civils lot has been allocated to George Cox & Sons, Multipave (NW) and NMS Civil Engineering.
DP Cold Planing and NMS Civil Engineering have secured places on the £5m cold milling lot, with Multevo and WJ North appointed to the separate £5m package for repairs to asphalt surfaces.
Contracts are expected to be signed from 21 September, ahead of the framework commencing the following month.
