Civil engineer takes top role after 19 years with the contractor, having worked on major projects including Old Oak Common and Olympia.
Laing O’Rourke has promoted Conor Considine to lead its Expanded Structures business, nearly two decades after he joined the contractor as a site engineer.
Considine will take up the position on 19 October, moving from his current role as operations leader. He joined the business in 2007 and progressed to project leader in 2021, building experience across complex construction and design-and-build projects.
His project experience includes Old Oak Common and the redevelopment of Olympia in west London, where the contractor is involved in a major transformation of the exhibition and events venue.
Considine succeeds Stephen O’Rourke, nephew of Laing O’Rourke chairman Ray O’Rourke, who left the company last month to pursue opportunities outside the business.
In his new role, Considine will report directly to Jean-Pierre de Villiers, director of Laing O’Rourke’s specialist trading business group.
De Villiers said: “Throughout his career Conor has been at the forefront of shaping and embedding modern methods of construction, using his knowledge to implement innovative approaches in complex design and build environments.
“In addition to his technical expertise Conor has a reputation as someone who leads with great care – supporting developing talent and shaping high-performing teams, inspiring them to push boundaries and enabling colleagues to achieve their full potential.”
