A £1.8 million education project at Pearl Hyde Primary School in Coventry has been completed, providing pupils and staff with new purpose-built learning and support facilities.

Delivered by G F Tomlinson on behalf of Coventry City Council in partnership with architect, Pick Everard, the project has transformed the school on Dorchester Way with a brand-new Early Years block featuring engaging learning and play spaces, a dedicated outdoor area and two new offices.

The scheme has also created a bespoke Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision by transforming the school’s former reception classroom, alongside a connected sensory room designed to support a wider range of pupil needs and provide an inclusive learning environment.

The project marks G F Tomlinson’s first appointment with Coventry City Council through the Constructing West Midlands (CWM) Framework and demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality education facilities across the region.

Throughout the project, G F Tomlinson worked closely with Coventry City Council, Pearl Hyde Primary School and the wider project team, while also supporting the local community through employment and supply chain opportunities. Multi-disciplinary consultancy Pick Everard worked alongside Coventry City Council and G F Tomlinson to provide Employer’s Agent and cost management services.

The completed facilities will provide pupils with modern spaces designed to support teaching, learning, development and wellbeing for many years to come.

Andy Sewards, Chairman at G F Tomlinson, said: “We are proud to have completed the transformation at Pearl Hyde Primary School and to have delivered these new facilities in partnership with Coventry City Council, the school and the wider project team. From the outset, this project has been particularly significant for G F Tomlinson as our first appointment with Coventry City Council through the Constructing West Midlands Framework. It has been fantastic to see the vision become a reality, with new, high-quality spaces that will make a genuine difference to pupils and staff.

“The new Early Years facilities and dedicated SEND provision will provide an enhanced environment for learning and development, and we are delighted to have played our part in delivering facilities that will benefit the school and wider community for many years to come.”

Cllr Abdul Salam Khan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Equalities at Coventry City Council, said: “The new facilities are fantastic, with modern, beautifully designed learning and play spaces. There is a real focus on pupil wellbeing and making sure the environment is not only the best it can be for education, but also to make the pupils feel comfortable and at home in their new surroundings.

“Thank you to everyone involved in the project. It has been a real team effort that has rightly always had the pupils at its heart and it has delivered a great new facility that will have lasting benefits for children, their families and school staff.”

Lara Sofoluwe, Associate Director of Cost Management at Pick Everard, said: “It’s been really rewarding to work closely with the school, Coventry City Council and wider project team to deliver these new facilities. The new early years and SEND spaces will make a real difference to pupils, parents and staff by supporting learning, development and the individual needs of the children. Despite some challenges along the way, the team worked together to find solutions, and we’re really pleased to have delivered the project on budget and created a new space that will leave a positive and lasting legacy for the school and its pupils.”
