Willmott Dixon has begun construction of a £20m health facility in Weybridge, Surrey, marking a significant step forward in the redevelopment of the former Weybridge Hospital site.

After two months of preparatory work on site, a ground breaking ceremony has been held to signal the start of main construction. The contractor is delivering a new two-storey health centre funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS Property Services and NHS Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board.

Designed by Murphy Philipps Architects, the new facility is expected to open in spring 2027. It will be home to the Phoenix Family Practice and will also house maternity services, same day urgent care, diagnostics, and health and wellbeing support, creating a modern hub for community healthcare in Weybridge.

Vicky Stobbart, director of commissioning and delivery for NHS Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Board, said: “This is a significant milestone for the project. The start of construction work represents years of planning and extended collaboration, where we have worked together to design a brand-new facility that will help improve the health and wellbeing of local people for generations to come.”

Richard Poulter, Willmott Dixon’s managing director for the south, said: “This development will bring essential health and wellbeing services closer to residents, creating a modern, accessible centre shaped around the needs of the community.

“With more than 100 healthcare construction projects, 30 of which have been community healthcare facilities, delivered across England and Wales over the past decade, our team brings deep experience in creating environments that support high quality patient care. This new facility represents the next generation of neighbourhood health provision, designed with flexibility and long-term adaptability at its core.”
