Balfour Beatty has announced the appointment of Ed Egerton as Chief Legal and Commercial Officer, further strengthening the Group’s leadership team as it continues to drive operational excellence, disciplined growth and long-term value creation.

Ed joins Balfour Beatty in September from AtkinsRéalis, the global engineering, design and project management business, where he has held a number of senior international leadership roles spanning legal, commercial, operations and digital across the 36,000-person global business.

Most recently, Ed has served as Acting General Counsel at AtkinsRéalis. With over 20 years’ experience in the infrastructure, engineering and energy sectors, he has built a strong track record of leading transformation, M&A, strengthening commercial performance and navigating complexity.

As a member of the Group Executive Committee, reporting to Philip Hoare, Group Chief Executive, Ed will lead Balfour Beatty’s Commercial, Legal, Procurement and Company Secretariat functions, with responsibility for further strengthening the Group’s opportunity and risk management capability.

Philip Hoare, Group Chief Executive, Balfour Beatty, said: “Ed is a proven leader with deep international experience, outstanding commercial instinct and a strong track record of delivering results in complex global businesses.

“He combines sharp strategic thinking with real operational credibility and understands how strong commercial and legal functions can help drive performance, unlock opportunity and create long-term value. Just as importantly, Ed is a collaborative and people-focused leader who knows how to build high-performing teams and lead transformation at scale.

“As we continue to position Balfour Beatty for the future, Ed’s experience across infrastructure, energy, risk, technology and AI-enabled transformation will be a huge asset to the Group and I’m delighted to welcome him to the team.”

During his time at AtkinsRéalis, Ed led major transformation programmes; strengthened operational processes including implementing AI solutions; negotiated strategic transactions; and managed significant portfolios including acquisitions, divestments and the management of complex commercial matters.

Commenting on his appointment, Ed said: “Balfour Beatty is a business I have long admired – not only for the scale and quality of the projects it delivers, but for the strength of its people, culture and ambition.

“The Group has built an impressive track record of disciplined performance and has a clear focus on shaping the organisation for the future. I’m excited to be joining at such an important time and look forward to working with teams across the business to build on that momentum, support growth and help deliver even greater value for our customers, partners and shareholders.”
