Simon Acres Group is partaking in a Careers Fair, at Wollaston School in Northamptonshire, on Thursday 25th June 2026. The specialist recruitment consultancy will be exhibiting, alongside 35 other organisations, to put a spotlight on careers in the KBB and construction industries. Simon Acres will also be hosting a session to classes of year 10 students on the theme of apprenticeships.
All year 10 and year 12 students at Wollaston School will attend the Careers Fair, each receiving pre-event information about the companies attending and what they offer. Pupils will then compile relevant questions and seek out their targeted exhibitors. Simon Acres Group will provide information on the KBB and construction industries, including the variety of job roles and career paths available in these sectors. For those students keen in exploring the opportunities in more detail, Simon Acres Group will signpost relevant apprenticeship routes such as the Fitted Interiors Installer (level 2), Fitted Furniture Design Technician (level 3) and Trade Supplier (level 2) courses.
Simon Acres, Managing Director, Simon Acres Group, says: “A key pillar of growth identified in our inaugural KBB Futures roundtable event was to ‘Articulate the industry’s value earlier (in schools) and louder to attract young talent and encourage more apprenticeships.’ Taking part in Wollaston School’s Careers Fair provides the perfect opportunity to put this idea into action. The day will give us a platform to grow awareness on the variety of roles available in the KBB and construction sectors and hopefully inspire young people to explore career opportunities within these industries.”
Bernie Myers, Careers Leader/Teacher, Wollaston School, adds: “We are excited for Simon Acres Group to join us at our annual Careers Fair. This is the 21st year that I have had the pleasure of organising this event. It has become a key part of the school calendar with great feedback from staff and students alike. All usual lessons are postponed for the day, and a variety of activities take place. We’re looking forward to learning more about the KBB and merchant roles available. It will also be great for students to find out more about the apprenticeship route from Simon Acres. His session will be invaluable to the year 10 students that are considering their post-GCSE options.”
With the government’s recent update to the Youth Guarantee creating 300,000 new work experience and training placements in a variety of sectors, including construction, there are now more opportunities for young people to gain hands-on experience, build real skills and move into sustained work. Simon’s sessions with the year 10 students will also delve into the importance of work experience and encourage the pupils to thoughtfully consider their future pathways.
Simon concludes: “It’s vital that we engage with young people early, challenge outdated perceptions of our sectors, and demonstrate the innovation, creativity and progression opportunities they can offer. By partaking in careers fairs and similar events aimed at young people, we can help build a stronger, more skilled workforce for the future and ensure the next generation sees KBB and construction as exciting and fulfilling career choices.”
