Kier Construction is poised to clinch a £35 million contract to deliver a major new seven-storey multi-storey car park and standalone cycle hub at Bristol Temple Meads, reinforcing its presence in large-scale transport infrastructure projects.
The contractor emerged ahead of strong competition from Vinci, GMI Construction, Goldbeck Construction and Huber Parking UK for the Southern Gateway scheme. Contract signature is expected by the end of the month, following the completion of the standstill period.
The project forms a critical enabling package within the wider Temple Quarter masterplan, relocating regulated station parking to the south and unlocking development land to the north for new homes and commercial schemes.
Designed by AHR and Arup, the scheme includes a 379-space seven-storey car park and a three-storey cycle pavilion accommodating more than 530 secure bike spaces. Public realm improvements will connect the two buildings, with hard and soft landscaping, drainage, dwell space, and flexible areas for temporary pop-up uses. A new southern walkway and entrance into Temple Meads station will also be constructed to improve access and passenger flow.
Highway upgrades along Bath Road include a segregated full-width footway, a two-way cycleway, a new bus stop with layby, and a signal-controlled junction providing direct access into the car park. The scheme also incorporates a Network Rail service yard and a relocated Railway-Related Access Point (RRAP) as part of the package.
The contract is being procured by Bristol Temple Quarter LLP, a joint venture between Bristol City Council, Homes England and the West of England Combined Authority, with Network Rail acting as a key delivery partner.
