McLaren confirms supply chain for major Ada Docklands data centre

McLaren Construction has confirmed its principal supply chain partners following the formal signing of the shell and core contract for the first of three 70MW data centre buildings at Ada Infrastructure’s Docklands campus.

The contractor’s scope extends beyond the initial building to include enabling infrastructure for the entire campus, as well as the interface for a future district heating network. The wider masterplan comprises three hyperscale data centre facilities, alongside a community multi-purpose building and enhanced public realm works. These include upgraded pedestrian and cycle routes along the River Thames, enabled by extensive repairs and improvements to the Thames river wall.

McLaren has been undertaking enabling works on site since October 2024. The shell and core phase is programmed for completion in mid-2028, positioning the first building at the Ada Docklands Campus for occupation by the end of that year.

Head of Ada Infrastructure EMEA, James Moloney, said: “The appointment of McLaren Construction is an important step in bringing this vision to life. Their experience delivering complex data centre and infrastructure projects will be instrumental as we transform this long-vacant site into a sustainable, future-focused campus that also enhances public spaces and contributes to the wider regeneration of the Royal Docks.”

Gareth Peebles, Divisional Director for McLaren Construction, added: “A project of this scale requires a balance of expertise across multiple disciplines, including putting health and safety as a top priority.

“McLaren has built a tried-and-tested team of specialists in civil, structural, architectural and MEP packages, infrastructure and data centre fit out. We will combine that expertise with our experience of safe and successful delivering within the many constraints of London’s Docklands sites.”

The confirmed supply chain partners include Keltbray for CFA piling, Menard for BMC piling, Gallagher for groundworks and civils, William Hare for the steel frame and Capital Concrete for readymix. Together, they will support delivery of one of the most significant new data centre campuses currently progressing in London’s Docklands.
