Willmott Dixon has climbed to the top of the UK contracts league for November after securing a £136m mixed-use development in Luton town centre, supported by a series of education wins. The performance pushed the contractor clear of its rivals in monthly work-won rankings.
The flagship Luton Stage scheme, procured through the Southern Construction Framework, will redevelop the former Bute Street Shoppers car park into a major town-centre destination. Plans include 292 residential flats, new commercial space and a purpose-built events venue.
Morgan Sindall took second place in the November table on the back of another strong run of regional awards. Its haul was led by a 217,000 sq ft science and innovation building in Manchester’s Knowledge Quarter, valued at around £100m, and a £40m leisure centre project in Stevenage.
Balfour Beatty ranked third after securing the latest section of A9 dualling between Pitlochry and Killecrankie in Scotland. The scheme forms part of the long-running upgrade of the key north–south trunk route.
Data from Barbour ABI shows the top 50 contractors collectively secured around £3bn of work across 127 projects in November. This was down from £3.45bn in October, reflecting ongoing client caution in a market still marked by uncertainty.
