Recurrent Energy plans 1GWh BESS with UK solar project

Recurrent Energy has confirmed plans for a 1GWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to be co-located with an oversized solar plant in the UK, according to details reported by the original publisher. The project pairs large-scale storage with a solar array designed to exceed its grid export capacity, allowing surplus generation to be captured and dispatched when prices are higher.

While contract values, EPC partners and funding structures have not been disclosed, the move underlines continuing investor appetite for hybrid solar-plus-storage assets in the UK market. Co-location is increasingly seen by developers and financiers as a way to improve project economics, optimise grid connections and capture additional revenue from ancillary services and arbitrage.

The reported 1GWh scale places the scheme among the larger BESS projects currently in development in the UK, although precise power rating, duration and delivery timetable have not been confirmed. Further commercial details, including route-to-market arrangements and offtake structures, remain to be clarified as the project progresses through development.
