Tilbury Douglas has introduced a humanoid robot onto one of its live construction sites, marking what it describes as a first among tier one contractors. The robot, named Douglas, has been deployed to support site teams by taking on administrative and data-collection tasks that would otherwise require significant manual input.
Designed to operate autonomously, the robot is capable of navigating active construction environments while capturing 360-degree imagery and compiling detailed progress reports. These outputs are used to support health and safety monitoring, as well as broader project reporting processes, providing site managers with up-to-date visual and analytical data.
The introduction of the system is expected to deliver measurable efficiency gains, with the company estimating time savings of around 40 hours per month. By automating routine tasks, site personnel are able to redirect their focus towards higher-value activities, particularly those requiring technical expertise and decision-making.
