Green Light for First Tower on £1bn Liverpool King Edward Scheme

Planning consent has been secured for the opening phase of the £1bn King Edward scheme next to Liverpool’s Pier Head, paving the way for the first tower to rise on the waterfront site.

Demolition works are due to begin this spring, ahead of construction of a 28-storey residential building on the first plot within the regeneration area. A demolition specialist is set to be appointed shortly, with discussions to commence with a shortlist of main contractors for delivery of the tower.

Hugh Frost of developer Beetham Davos said: “It feels like we’ve pushed a big green button marked ‘go’.

“The tower is fully-funded by the project shareholders and we will now move forward at pace.”

The wider King Edward masterplan proposes a cluster of high-rise buildings, with ambitions to test Liverpool’s planning policy on height, including proposals for a landmark 60-storey tower.
