John Sisk & Son has been appointed as main contractor for a £42m redevelopment of Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham, with completion targeted ahead of the Men’s Ashes series in summer 2027.

The project will see the Raglan and Priory stands transformed into a new 3,200-seat facility, incorporating upgraded spectator amenities. The scheme also includes the development of a four-star Radisson RED hotel, featuring hospitality boxes and pitch-facing rooms designed to enhance the venue’s commercial and visitor offering.

The redevelopment forms part of a wider masterplan for the stadium, led by Warwickshire County Cricket Club, which is acting as client on the scheme. The project is intended to strengthen Edgbaston’s position as a major international cricket venue while expanding its year-round use.

Sisk confirmed its appointment as Build UK launched its Open Doors 2026 initiative at the stadium. The programme is hosting events at around 240 construction sites across the UK this week, aimed at promoting careers in the industry and increasing awareness of opportunities within the sector.

According to Sisk, the addition of the hotel is expected to increase Edgbaston’s contribution to the local economy to £40m annually, rising to more than £70m during a Cricket World Cup year. The development is also projected to create 134 permanent jobs, adding to the approximately 1,000 full-time equivalent roles already supported by the stadium.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club chief executive Stuart Cain said Sisk’s experience on sports and West Midlands projects made it “the ideal delivery partner” for the next phase of the masterplan.
