Jackson secures £22m contract for Exceat Bridge in East Sussex

Jackson Civil Engineering Group has been confirmed as the successful contractor to deliver the new £21.7 million Exceat Bridge in East Sussex, following a competitive three-way tender. The firm was selected ahead of rivals Costain and Volker and formally appointed by East Sussex County Council.

Jackson will now work with the council to finalise a detailed construction programme, with main works expected to commence later this year.

Cllr Claire Dowling said: “With the bridge sitting in the middle of the South Downs National Park, it was important to bring on board an experienced contractor who can carry out the work sensitively, and I am delighted with the appointment of Jackson Civil Engineering Group.

“The appointment means we can move forward to construction of the bridge, which has been many years in the planning.”

The existing one-lane bridge, which is ageing and in need of significant repairs, has long been a pinch point on the key coastal route connecting Seaford and Eastbourne.

The new two-lane structure is designed to ease congestion and reduce journey times, while upgraded footways will improve accessibility for visitors to the South Downs National Park, enhancing both safety and the local visitor experience.
