Biggest intake of graduates at Southern Water

Biggest intake of graduates at Southern Water

We’re launching our largest ever intake of graduates, more than 50 will start their careers at Southern Water.

Our graduate programme provides unique job opportunities, they include digital and AI intelligence roles, operation managers, as well as asset management roles in water and wastewater.

One graduate, Alisha Stafford-Jones, 24, is an ecologist and will complete her first year at the company on 31 March 2026. Here she shares some of the images of animals that have made a home at our sites across the Southeast, from the last year.

Alisha said: “My job as a graduate ecologist is to make sure we protect species, habitats and the environment, while the company carry out essential projects such as site upgrades and construction work.

“Our teams work together with all sorts of different departments across the company, we share ideas and work towards protecting the environment and all wildlife species.

“I love my job, but the best bit is probably the field work on a summer’s day. Being able to work in the outdoors and see nature first hand is a real treat. There’s always something unexpected if you look hard enough.”

Richard Griffiths, People Development Manager at Southern Water said: “Our graduate programmes and schemes are designed to help students succeed. We provide the highest level of support, the best tools, trusted techniques and ongoing training to give our people a flying start in their career.”

We are proud that what we do matters to the communities we work closely with. We have a meaningful purpose and an important responsibility. We know that the work we do today will make for a better tomorrow, which is why we are so passionate about supporting early careers development.

Alisha lives in Hampshire, and travels to sites in Kent, Hampshire and Sussex. Her office is based in Falmer, Brighton and she also works from home. She has a master’s degree in environmental science after studying at Southampton University.
