Marley has launched a new online Technical Tools platform, designed to simplify and speed up roofing specification for roofing contractors and installers.
Building on the company’s existing digital specification services, the upgraded Technical Tools platform brings together a suite of tools in one easy-to-use online environment.
Using Marley’s Technical Tools, roofers can generate compliant fixing specifications, accurate material estimates, NBS Specifications and integrated solar PV arrays from a single project file — without the need to re-enter project data.
Contractors can choose to use individual tools as required or combine multiple tools within the same project, helping to reduce admin time and improve accuracy across the entire roofing specification process.
Right first time
For installers requiring robust fixing specifications and product estimates, the platform automatically determines the minimum fixing requirements for a roof tile based on key project information including building dimensions, roof pitch, tile type and site location, and calculates the product quantities required for all selected products.
All fixing specifications are produced in accordance with BS EN 1991-1-4 and BS 5534, giving installers confidence that the final specification is fully compliant. Once generated, specifications can be saved and archived for future reference, supporting traceability and best practice.
NBS Specification included as standard
The Technical Tools platform also provides access to a comprehensive NBS Specification, detailing the full scope of works required for the roofing installation.
This includes confirmation of the suitability of the selected roof tile, fittings, systems and accessories, alongside a clear summary of key installation requirements presented in easy-to-manage bullet points. The NBS Specification supports accurate costing and underpins Marley’s 15-year system warranty.
Industry first integrated solar PV configurator
With demand for rooftop renewables expected to accelerate following the Government’s Warm Homes Plan, Marley’s Technical Tools makes planning integrated solar PV straightforward for roofing contractors.
For the first time, contractors can design a solar array directly within the specification software using a simple configurator. The tool identifies panel quantities, required flashings and accessories, and provides guidance on expected kW output.
The integrated approach also automatically accounts for the reduction in roof tiles required, delivering a fully transparent estimate with solar PV designed in from the outset.
Built for busy roofing contractors
Additional features within the upgraded Technical Tools platform include:
- Automatic product compatibility: Only compatible tiles, accessories and colour options are available based on project location and roof design.
- Guided step-by-step workflow: Users cannot progress until errors or missing information are resolved, reducing mistakes.
- Multi-plot capability: Create fixing specs, estimates and NBS documents for multiple plots, house types or roof slopes within a single project.
- Project archive: Secure storage of previous projects for traceability, peace of mind and easy access.
Dan Redfern, Head of Marketing Communications at Marley, commented:
“Roofing contractors can significantly simplify the specification process by using Marley’s Technical Tools. By bringing multiple specification tools together into one integrated online package, they can save time while gaining reassurance that they are working with fully compliant, compatible and proven roofing solutions.
“The inclusion of the integrated solar PV configurator is an industry-first and comes at a time when demand for renewables is growing rapidly. The platform removes much of the complexity for contractors as they develop their knowledge and experience of solar PV installations.
“With time spent off the roof directly impacting earning potential, the ability to quickly and accurately generate specification information can make a real difference. Technical Tools is designed to support busy roofing contractors by keeping them productive, confident and compliant.”
