Winvic Construction has secured a £112m main works contract from Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, to deliver a 481-home mixed-tenure residential tower in Digbeth, Birmingham.
Construction of the 34-storey scheme is scheduled to commence in October, subject to site clearance by demolition specialist PJ Careys. The 1.3-acre Clyde Street/High Street site is currently occupied by a former Safestore industrial facility and associated hard-standing car parking, with demolition works due to begin next month.
The development will comprise 288 affordable homes, representing 60% of the total provision. Of these, 141 units are designated for social rent and 147 for shared ownership. The remaining 193 homes will be delivered for private sale. In addition to the residential accommodation, the project includes 9,803 sq ft of commercial space at ground level and associated public realm improvements intended to enhance connectivity and street-level activation within the area.
Richard Cook, chief development officer at Clarion Housing Group, said: “With 60% of homes delivered as affordable, including a substantial proportion for social rent, this scheme reflects Latimer’s long-term commitment to inclusive growth and creating places that work for a broad range of people.
“We are looking forward to working closely with Winvic to deliver high-quality homes and a development that contributes positively to Digbeth’s continued regeneration.”
The award reinforces Winvic’s growing presence in high-rise residential delivery and underlines the continued momentum of regeneration activity in Digbeth, where a combination of residential, commercial and infrastructure investment is reshaping one of Birmingham’s most historically industrial districts into a higher-density mixed-use neighbourhood.
