ALTRAD RMD KWIKFORM LAUNCHES THE R800 FOOTBRIDGE FOR IMPROVED TEMPORARY ACCESS

ALTRAD RMD KWIKFORM LAUNCHES THE R800 FOOTBRIDGE FOR IMPROVED TEMPORARY ACCESS
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Temporary works specialist, Altrad RMD Kwikform (Altrad RMDK), has launched the R800 Footbridge, a high-capacity modular bridging solution developed to meet the evolving demands of temporary works across infrastructure and construction projects.

Engineered for pedestrian, cycle and service access, the system delivers clear spans of 60 metres and above, enabling contractors to bridge roads, railways and waterways, reducing disruption, and simplifying foundation requirements.

Designed to meet temporary works live load requirements of 5kN/m² with compliant headroom, the R800 Footbridge is suitable for high-footfall public environments as well as operational site use. Dynamic behaviour due to wind and pedestrian loading is carefully considered during application engineering, ensuring user comfort and structural stability across longer spans.

The R800 Footbridge is suited to a broad range of applications, including temporary pedestrian crossings, utility and service bridges over live assets, access during bridge refurbishment or demolition works, overhead routing of M&E services and support for material conveyors. Its compatibility with other Altrad RMD Kwikform systems further enhances its adaptability to complex site conditions.

The system is comprised of paired R800 girders, available in plain or reinforced configurations to suit varying span and load requirements. For more demanding applications, four or six girder arrangements can be used to accommodate higher loads or extended spans.

The bridge offers adjustable internal widths from 1,830mm to 3,630mm, allowing it to be configured for narrow service routes or wider combined pedestrian and cycle access. Optional cantilever extensions provide segregated walkways or dedicated service zones without impacting the main span.

Bridges can be pre-assembled off-site and craned into position in as little as 15 minutes, significantly reducing time spent working at height. Single-bolt node connections simplify erection and nylon-insert nuts help maintain fastener security throughout the bridge’s service life, reducing inspection and maintenance requirements.

A non-slip, whole-sheet rentable ply deck minimises trip hazards and accelerates installation, while fully enclosed edge protection options, including fence panels and hoarding systems, support both public facing and secure site applications. Adjustable knee braces and integrated plan bracing enhance lateral restraint and wind resistance, providing confidence in challenging environments.

Russell Stanley, Project Manager at Altrad RMD Kwikform, said: “The launch of the R800 Footbridge represents an important step forward in how we support complex temporary access requirements. We’ve combined high load capacity and long-span capability with modular flexibility, creating a solution for challenging live environments quickly and safely.

“The R800 has been engineered to give our customers confidence from design and compliance through to installation and on-site performance.”
