Balfour Beatty is delivering a £65m expansion at Edinburgh Airport under a contract awarded in May 2026.
The project involves construction of a two-storey terminal extension providing eight additional departure gates, increasing capacity as passenger numbers continue to grow.
The scheme forms part of the first phase of Edinburgh Airport’s largest capital investment programme to date, with more than £500m due to be invested over the next five years.
Recent work has included the installation of eight link bridges within the live airport environment. The bridges will connect the existing terminal with the new extension and required construction activity to be carried out while airport operations continued.
The latest project builds on Balfour Beatty’s previous work at the airport, including the £8m Security Futures Project. This included installation of new security screening technology, an expansion of the baggage hall and upgrades to the airport’s fire station facilities.
Nick Rowan, managing director of Balfour Beatty’s business in Scotland, said: “As Scotland’s busiest airport, Edinburgh Airport plays a vital role in supporting the country’s economy, international connectivity and future growth, and we are proud to be helping deliver the infrastructure needed for its next chapter.
“Operating within highly regulated live airport environments requires specialist expertise, and our teams’ capability has enabled us to safely deliver complex infrastructure projects while maintaining operational continuity and minimising disruption for airport users.”
