Heart of Worcestershire College calls on local construction employers to invest in the next generation of apprentices

Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW College) is encouraging construction employers across Redditch, Malvern and the surrounding areas to offer apprenticeship opportunities to help develop the next generation of skilled workers.

With construction businesses facing an ongoing need for skilled workers, HoW College is encouraging local employers to consider taking on apprentices and supporting learners to gain valuable, hands-on experience alongside their studies, particularly in bricklaying, carpentry, and property maintenance.

The College currently has apprenticeship opportunities available across its construction courses, with all construction apprenticeships in Redditch starting on 2nd November, and bricklaying and carpentry apprenticeships in Malvern starting on 6th November.

Apprenticeships provide employers with the opportunity to develop new talent within their business, whilst giving learners the practical skills, knowledge, and experience they need to progress.

Employers who offer apprenticeship opportunities, not only give students the chance to gain real-world work experience and hands-on learning, but can also benefit from a range of incentives and grants.

  •  Age Incentive Grant – available to both levy and non-levy employers taking on an apprentice ages 16-18. The £1,000 grant is paid in two instalments over the first 12 months.
  •  Hiring Incentive – available to non-levy employers taking on an apprentice aged 16-24, where the apprentice has been working for the company for no longer than 90 days. The £2,000 is paid in two instalments over the first 12 months.
  • Youth Jobs Grant – available to both levy and non-Levy employers where an apprentice is aged 18-24 and has been claiming Universal Credit for 6 months or more. This £3,000 is paid directlyto the employer by the Department for Work and Pensions.

Mo Horan, Vice Principal at HoW College, said: “The construction industry plays such an important role in our local economy, and there is an opportunity for employers to help shape the next generation of skilled workers. Apprenticeships give learners the chance to gain valuable, hands-on experience while developing the skills and knowledge they need to build a successful career. We’re encouraging construction employers across Worcestershire to get in touch to find out more about how they can get involved.”

HoW College is committed to bridging the gap between education and employment, with the support of local businesses. If you are an employer interested in working with HoW College, please email solutions@howcollege.ac.uk
